Next up were the&nbsp;yogurt &amp; cheese croquettes&nbsp;(AED46). Imagine biting into a crispy ball that gives way to soft, melty cottage cheese .The&nbsp;spinach fritters&nbsp;(AED28) were another hit. Lightly battered and incredibly crispy, these fritters came with a chutney that felt like an explosion of flavours in your mouth, perfectly complementing the crunch. We tried the&nbsp;ghee roast mushroom&nbsp;(AED58) main, a dish that stood out with its strong spices and rich flavours. The mushrooms themselves absorb flavour beautifully, so each bite was a mix of both earthy and spicy goodness. The&nbsp;soya tawa masala&nbsp;(AED58) was a comforting dish with soya veggies covered in a savoury sauce, topped with cheese, and holding a nice salty kick. Of course, we couldn’t miss the&nbsp;paneer makhani&nbsp;(AED56) - think butter chicken, but with paneer replacing the chicken! The sauce was rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious - a vegetarian’s dream come true!

We finished with the&nbsp;mango panna cotta&nbsp;(AED36), which was soft and really good but the showstopper was the extraordinary&nbsp;jamun churros (AED36): imagine black jamun dough balls reimagined into churros, with that same familiar taste but in a new, fun form. Dipped in rabri sauce and sprinkled with nuts, it was the perfect blend of crunch and sweetness. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at GALA. There's nothing like a little live music to boost the mood and feed the soul. Here are some great options for live music in Dubai. 

LIVE MUSIC TO LIVE BY IN DUBAI

You know that feeling when you know you fancy something and only Chinese food will do the job? Wontoneria, near the front of Yas Food Hall, is almost a hidden gem, and gave us a ton of good Chinese food feels. We ordered a pot of Chinese tea (jasmine) (essential!) and made our way through a ton of dishes, which varied from good to drool!

If I was in need of a healthy lunch or dinner, the&nbsp;cucumber salad&nbsp;(AED28) would be an absolute must-order. The name is rather ordinary but the crisp, cold, fresh cucumber with lime dressing is so piquant, it's not to be overlooked. I'd follow this with either crispy&nbsp;lettuce cups&nbsp;or a massive bowl of&nbsp;chicken and prawn won tons&nbsp;in the most tasty, clear chicken&nbsp;broth, made with actual chicken! (AD58). This is something you'd order when you're feeling under the weather, or just want something wholesome, comforting and super tasty.

Continuing the strong won-ton game, the soft&nbsp;duck won-tons&nbsp;(love a bit of daytime duck!) on a bed of noodles (AED68) were everyone's favourite dish. The won-tons were massive and made for a really filling and delicious plate and their&nbsp;crispy vege won-ton&nbsp;mates were also plump with filling and gorgeous to eat.We added a couple more mains to round it off, notably the&nbsp;salt and pepper squid&nbsp;(AED54), (not a massive plate but enough to wet your whistle) and the&nbsp;spicy crispy eggplant&nbsp;(AED35). This was another wolf in sheep's clothing: it's not crazy spicy but is absolutely flavourful, not quite crunchy and fresh. And while the&nbsp;custard buns&nbsp;didn't have the runny centre we're used to, they were equally as tasty - actually completely moreish. Wontoneria is definitely a must-try if you also feel that Chinese food craving coming on and is a really good option if you're starvalicious in Yas Mall. Abu Dhabi is spoiled for choice amongst a slew of very good Japanese restaurants. Of course price ranges differ, with Hakkasan, Zuma and 99 Sushi Bar hitting up the high end, while Daikan and Cafe Sushi suit lower budgets. Without doubt, the best value Japanese restaurant in Abu Dhabi is Niri where you'll find outstanding food and drinks at a reasonable price.

<h2><a href="https://www.bestbitesuae.com/dining/niri" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">NIRI</a></h2>MAMSHA AL SAADIYAT There's a reason Niri is consistently at the top of people's 'where shall we go for dinner?' list ... actually more than one! The Japanese cuisine is expertly prepared, with a menu that promises excellent yakitori served on individual grills, a wide range of maki and nigiri and some outstanding main courses (the tenderloin is a must). Save room for dessert: we think the pistachio cheesecake is one of the best desserts in Abu Dhabi. Alongside that, drinks at Niri are both well-priced and beautifully presented, with flavour profiles to match. We love that there are both cocktails and mocktails and that equal thought has been put into making these drinks an integral part of the dining experience.

Overlooking the Al Maryah basin, it's popularity stems from outstanding food with service to match. Expect some of the best maki in Abu Dhabi - the Alaskan king crab gunkan is absolutely excellent - and the steak (pictured) is melt-in-your-mouth good. We love the Omakase Business Lunch (AED189 for 8 dishes) which is excellent value. Food comes quickly, getting you in and out in an hour, if you don't have time to savour the occasion. It’s Japanese cuisine at its finest where highlights include the wakame salad, the equally soft and succulent wagyu burger, the nigiri (the otoro is insane!) and the miso black cod. Oh and the noodles! Desserts are somewhat of a magical mystery tour: we find eating the black sesame crème brûlée with our eyes closed helps process the layers of taste - we'd love to hear what you think of it! It doesn't serve alcohol but mocktails are absolutely on point. Otoro is perfect for an upscale lunch, especially in cooler weather when you can sit on the terrace. The otoro fatty tuna is a go-to for nigiri but if you want to push the boat out get the miyazaki gyu nigiri torifu nose - absolutely swoon-worthy. The gyu no tataki is excellent as is the thinly sliced hamachi (yellowtail). Enjoy seafood, meat and chicken from the robata grill and some outstanding dessert options. Our go-to order is the gyoza (AED 35), chicken karaage which is delightful (AED 35), shoyu ramen (AED 55), and spicy miso ramen (AED 55). The gyoza are good quality with perfectly crispy bottoms while the karaage is excellent - definitely one of the best we've tried in Abu Dhabi. The ramen broths are chicken based so you can't compare them to a pork ramen but are delicious and very filling. We also love the maki rolls - the wagyu is exceptional bu only 2 rolls per serving so be sure to order a couple or it won't touch the sides - and the takoyaki are superb.
