9 OF THE BEST RESTAURANTS ON YAS ISLAND RIGHT NOW

There's some seriously good food to be had on Yas Island and we've lined up some of our faves for this month: we've everything from a cracker curry house to a Japanese that can't be missed. Read on ...!

DAIKAN IZAKAYA, JAPANESE

YAS BAY

If it's good ramen you want, Daikan is the place to get it. In the heart of Yas Bay, Daikan sports great decor with very cool and authentic long tables where you might actually have to sit beside someone you don't know! and fabulous Japanese cuisine at reasonable prices making it a great place to feed the family or to catch up with friends without breaking the bank.

The menu is split into small plates, sushi/sashimi, ramen, charcoal grill and desserts. Our go-to order is the gyoza (AED 35), chicken karaage (AED 35), shoyu ramen (AED 55), and spicy miso ramen (AED 55). The gyoza are good quality with perfectly crispy bottoms while the karaage is excellent - definitely one of the best we've tried. The ramen broths are chicken based so you can't compare them to a pork ramen but are delicious and flavourful. We also love the maki rolls - the wagyu is exceptional - and the takoyaki are superb.

We're happy to make the call that once you've been, it'll become a firm favourite. Let us know!

BARBOSSA - MEXICAN

YAS BAY

A restaurant that shines as bright in the summer without its terrace as it does in the good weather? Barbossa is exactly this. Serving good quality Mexican cuisine with input from some bona fide Mexican food magicians, and some stellar drinks, Barbossa is the hub for brunch and night time good times in Yas Bay. The ladies night is one of the best in the city!

Whichever time you choose to hit up Barbossa, vibes are guaranteed.

RANGOLI, INDIAN

YAS ISLAND ROTANA

Rangoli is the go-to Indian for off-islanders. It's beautifully decorated, has staff who not only know their stuff but really work hard to give you a great experience, and food that will knock your socks off!

Carefully curated by Chef Sadab, whose dedication to his craft extends to sourcing ingredients on his trips home to visit his family, the pride in his menu is obvious and well justified! The homestyle chicken curry (AED85) is an homage to his mum and hits real high note for us, as does the Aleppy seafood curry (AED130), doled from an earthen pot onto fluffy Kerala red rice. Vegetarian or not, don’t sleep on amchoori bhindi (AED60): okra tossed with fresh mango and cumin is the perfect contrast of textures, the crispy top layer giving way to tender bites.

NURI GRILL BAR, KOREAN

YAS BAY

If higher end Korean and some epic drinks is what you're after, head straight for Nuri Grill Bar. On our first visit we found nothing not to love!

The ganjan chicken, deep fried in a thick, surprisingly light, crispy batter with the stickiest sauce (AED89) is a win, as are the japchae glass noodles, heaving with mushrooms, carrots and spring onions with the most excellent sweet and sour sauce.

The abalone galbi jjim is such an interesting dish but the star of the show is the Butcher’s Feast - choose from 4 special cut (AED250), 6 premium cut (AED320) or pork feast (AED250) and have them grilled them at the in-table grill. With everything from wagyu to rib eye cap and chuck, there's something for everyone. Wrap your chosen cut in lettuce, add some ban-chan pickled vegetables and kimchi and pop it in - so good and pretty healthy!

PARADISO, ITALIAN

YAS BAY

Paradiso is the place for date night, for brunch or just for sitting and admiring the views across the Bay.

With an extensive and high quality Italian menu, Paradiso is a must-try on Yas Island. Regularly recommended for great pasta dishes, seafood to-die-for and outstanding drinks, this high end venue is somewhere everyone must try at least once ... and we think you'll be hooked!

There's often sultry live music and service is excellent and it's worth noting that its happy hour gets you a second drink on the house when you buy the first one - what better way to finish your day?

SLRP, ASIAN

YAS FOOD HALL

This sister ship of the Michelin selected 3 Fils in Dubai is an excellent addition to Yas Food Hall. The menu is varied, ranging from some absolutely outstanding nigiri and succulent lamb ribs to some gorgeous ramen, SLRP provides a top class dining experience in a food hall setting. Service is great, food comes quickly and everything tastes absolutely delicious.

Bib up and slurp on!

Open: 10AM - 10.30PM

MIKA, MEDITERRANEAN

YAS MARINA

Mika appeared on the Abu Dhabi dining scene last summer and it was immediately clear that they hit the culinary nail on the head. The menu is made up of small plates (order tons!) with great things like pate on chunky rye, the most delectable corn tartlets and then moving to bigger dishes - the steak is exceptional and well-priced. The big 'don't miss' is the tiramisu for dessert. It's marina-side location makes it perfect for winter nights but the interior is so cool, it's a lovely place for a drink or a meal in the summer too.

We recommend!

ASIA ASIA, ASIAN

YAS BAY

We love Asia Asia for it's range of simple, Asian fare and its funky interior. Go for the absolutely divine caramelised sweet potato, the miso black cod and the exceptional yuzu pavlova that's made a recent appearance on the menu.

It's made even better by a cracking BB+ menu and 20% off brunch.

BUA THAI CAFE, THAI

YAS BAY

This small, but perfectly formed Thai eatery is the second in Bua's stable. With views of the bay and an exceptional and interesting Thai menu, it's the perfect place to go in Yas Bay if you want all the vibes but don't want to sell a kidney to enjoy them!

We love the won-ton pad Thai, a superb crispy octopus dish and of course, the delectable mango sticky rice. Cocktails come in at around AED30 - by far the most reasonable on the Bay - and are absolutely beautiful. Bua Thai is almost a hidden gem, but one you shouldn't walk past.
